Question:  "I want to use HostGator web hosting, but my I registered my domain name with GoDaddy.  Is it possible to build and host a website at Host Gator with my GoDaddy domain?"

Answer:  If you bought a domain name at GoDaddy, you don't have to get web hosting from GoDaddy to create your website.

However, you do need web hosting to get your website up on the web. If you haven't purchased web hosting, Get Hostgator web hosting now!

Change Instructions to Make At Go Daddy to Use HostGator Web Hosting:

1.  Login to your Go Daddy account

2.  Hover your mouse over "Domains" in the top navigation

3.  Click on "Domain Management" under "Go To" "My Account"

4.  Under "My Products", click on "Domain Manager" 

5.  In the domain manager, click on the domain name you want to build a website on.

6.  Hover you mouse over "Nameservers" in middle/top navigation, and click on "Set Nameservers".

7. Click on the "I have specific nameservers for my domains" radial button.

8.  Type in the HostGator DNS Domain Nameservers -

9.  Click the "OK" button 

There you go!  Your domain name now points to your Hostgator web hosting account.  Note:  Sometimes it takes a little time before the nameserver change propagates through the internet (sometimes up to a day, but usually within 5 minutes).

Change Instructions to Make At HostGator to Use a Domain Registered at Go Daddy:

Okay, now at HostGator, you need to add the domain as an "add-on" domain to your web hosting account.  An addon domain allows visitors to reach a subdomain of your site by typing the addon domain's URL into a browser. This means that you can host additional domains from your HostGator hosting account.

1.  Login into your HostGator cPanel.  If you don't have a HostGator hosting account, get it now!

2.  Click on the "Add-On Domain" icon about half way down the cPanel page

3.  Follow the  "Add-On Domain" instructions

There you go - your GoDaddy registered domain name is now ready for you to use with your HostGator web hosting account!
