Can I Buy a GoDaddy Domain and Use HostMonster Web Hosting?
Yes, you can buy a domain from one vendor and host it with another vendor. Should you have dispute with the HostMonster, which is rare, your website is not at their mercy as you can always point your domain to another web hosting provider. In fact it is a good practice not to put all your eggs in one basket. If you have a domain name at GoDaddy, buy web hosting from Hostmonster. The combination of GoDaddy domain registration and cheap hosting from Host Monster is great for new websites. Oh, and click on the banner below to get domain names for only $7.49 per year - bargain! Login to your GoDaddy.com account. Select your domain and go to the domain setting. Look for the 'Nameservers'. Click on 'Set Nameservers'. Select the radio button with the words 'I have specific nameservers for my domains'. Change the name servers e.g 'ns1.hostmonster.com' and 'ns2.hostmonster.com'
Wait for a few minutes. Login to the hostmonster cpanel. Go to the 'Domains' section and click on 'Addon Domains'.
Assuming that your domain name is www.yourblogurl.com
Fill in the form. In Step 1 under 'Use a domain that is not already associated with your account', enter a valid domain name eg 'yourblogurl.com' In Step 4 under 'Create a new directory', enter the directory e.g. 'yourblogurl' In the sub-domain box, enter the domain alias e.g. 'yourblogurl' Click on 'add domain'. Now you can view your website which is hosted in Hostmonster, although your domain is registered with GoDaddy. See, that was easy!
